Automotive KPI Mastery was founded by its CEO, Darren Manzari in 1996. He spent over 30 years in the car industry and worked as an Automotive Efficiency consultant on hundreds of projects in more than 20 countries. Darren’s journey began when he decided to close his automotive repair workshops on Saturdays in 1992. He did not want to reduce his income so he had to find a way to generate the same level of profits by working fewer hours.
Who we are
His first step was to attack the problem of shop efficiency so he began to measure and analyze everything. Darren dissected repair invoices, compared technician performance, measured the steps between work stations, and even walked around with a stopwatch to figure out how much time was wasted waiting for parts. After some trial and error, he discovered the means to measure and track key indicators to reach greater productivity, efficiency and resource utilization. Most of the information was easy to get because it was already being collected to invoice customers and pay employees.
The real insight came from interpreting the indicators in ways that allowed the shop to take actions, make changes and coach technicians. In a short period of time, after some trial and error, profits were higher with less working hours. Customers and employees were happier as well. In fact, employees grew professionally because they learned to understand how their actions impacted the organization’s success. As the shop perfected its strategy, profitable behavior and work habits became the core of work culture.
Then other repair shops reached out to Darren for help with their efficiency problems. His first clients were local and then requests came from further away. Soon, Darren sold his shops and became an automotive efficiency consultant full time. He found that regardless of country or region, automotive repair workshops suffered from the same roadblocks to profitability. Almost universally, they were not measuring some of the most important performance indicators; or they couldn’t interpret the information they did collect.
Over time, Darren established client relationships with several auto manufacturers. He traveled around the world providing repair efficiency consulting and training to their dealerships, but his ability to scale his services was limited by time and distance. He had to turn down potential clients who needed his services. As smartphones and mobile devices became more prevalent on the workshop floor, Darren realized that technology was the answer. With mobility, it became easier to gather key performance data and deliver analysis to his clients without interfering with actual repair work. So the KPI Mastery Cloud Platform was created.
In less than 2 minutes each day, Automotive KPI Mastery users input baseline information with their phone, tablet or computer. At the end of each month, the system uses advanced algorithms to analyze metrics and show customers where they stand. The KPI Mastery Dashboard allows customers to visualize exactly where their organizations are in relationship to their efficiency objectives. The system will also provide detailed instructions on what steps can be taken to correct or improve work procedures. Concise video and audio based training explain current metrics indications, suggest the areas with the highest probable cause for those outside of the maximum performance range, and deliver a ready-to-deploy action plan each month.
